Gwanaksan (632 m) is a mountain in Seoul. Portions lie in Gwanak-gu and Geumcheon-gu districts of Seoul, other portions lie in the neighboring cities of Anyang, and Gwacheon in Gyeonggi-do.
The name gwanak means "hat-shaped peak," and refers to its gat-like profile. Thus Gwanaksan literally means "mountain of the hat-shaped peak." Together with Songaksan in Kaesong, Gamaksan in Paju, Uaksan in Pocheon, and Hwaaksan in Gapyeong, Gwanaksan was long considered one of the five representative peaks of Gyeonggi-do.
The main campus of Seoul national university is located just northwest of the mountain, and Gwacheon national government complex lies to the east. Also nearby is the Anyang Resort Area, a popular local tourist attraction. On the mountain itself lie numerous Buddhist temples, including Wongaksa. Most of the mountain slope is protected land. The mountain is very popular with older climbers, since it can easily be reached by Seoul's public transportation. Annual hiking traffic is close to 5 million people.

The temple is completely surrounded by nature, and offers amazing scenery year-round. In particular, the crimson, so-called “Baby Foliage Trees”, which look like a cute little baby’s hands or Bracken ferns, will completely blow you away with their fantastic scenery. If you walk up the mountain Baekamsan in the direction of the Unmun Seon Room, after about 20 minutes you’ll come to a place where you can see all of Baekyangsa at once, from the hermitage Yaksaam. The whole mountain may be on fire with the crimson colors of the fall foliage, but Baekyangsa stands quietly there, as it always has. You can stand there all day looking at the scenery, and never grow tired of it.
