Most people know Seoul for its delicious Korean desserts, Korean BBQ, and Korean Fried Chicken. Less well-known is the delicious Korean-style porridge! Case in point, MiGaBon(味加本) at Myeong-dong. We had a little difficulty locating the restaurant, but we finally found it and our efforts were well rewarded. The Mushroom Porridge (KRW 6,000) was a quintessential example of how ALL porridges should be prepared – with a luxuriously smooth texture, savoury taste, and mixed with scrumptious ingredients (mushrooms, sesame seeds, spring onions). I finished the whole bowl within minutes. This was definitely one of our best meals in Seoul!

Myeongdong Kyoja is a noodle restaurant located near Myeongdong Cathedral that has been in business for about 40 years. The restaurant is known for their knife-cut, handmade kalguksu (noodle soup) which is its main menu item. These lovingly prepared noodles are served in a deep and flavorful broth with meat and vegetables, making for a delicious meal. Inaniwa Yosuke, located near Seoul City Hall, is Korea’s branch of a restaurant named Sato Yosuke in Japan that has been specializing in udon for the past 350 years. The restauarant also made its way to Michelin Guide’s list of Bib Gourmand and is one of the top three must-eat udon in Japan. The udon featured at these restaurants are characterized by thin, flat noodles that have a chewy texture.
Their signature menus are seiro udon and hot soup udon. Seiro udon is served cold with two different sauces to dip your noodles in: the tsuyu sauce and the sesame miso sauce. Each sauce has its own unique flavor that will stimulate your tastebuds. The recommended side menu to go along with the noodles is shrimp cream croquette, a delicious combination of smooth cream and shrimp filling covered with a crispy crust. Located in Myeongdong Cathedral, Bistro 74 is a Korean Western Fusion restaurant. During the construction of remodeling work in 2014, it opened on the first floor of the Cathedral. The Myeongdong Nanta Theatre is located on the 3rd to 5th floors of the Unesco Building, where Funky House used to be. It includes a theater with 386 seats on two tiers. The seats are arranged as close as possible to the stage, and there are specially designed walls so the audience can really experience the energy of the performance. The auditorium also includes a special room for families with small children, located on the third floor. This room has soundproof glass and a stereo system, so that audience members of all ages can enjoy the performance.
Not only does the Myeongdong have a program of high quality performances, but it also runs a first-class exhibition space in its lobby.
