This is an archaeological museum displaying ancient Greek and Roman artifacts.
The museum consists of three museums: the Archeology Museum, the Ancient Eastern Works Museum, and the Enamed Kiosk Museum.
It houses a million works of art.
Major collections include Alexander Sarcophagus, a grieving women's sarcophagus, 800,000 Ottoman-Turkish coins and Kadesh battle plaques from the Greek, Hellenistic and Roman periods.
The Archaeological Museum was built in 1881 by the artist Osman Hamdi Bey and completed in 1908 as a museum of today's time, and houses the Alexander sarcophagus and the grieving women's sarcophagus. The Ancient Asian Museum was built in 1883 by Osman Hamdibay, opened in 1935 as a museum, and reopened in 1974 after a restoration process.
