Turkey's signature dessert "Lokum" which we are familiar with as Turkish delight,
is a traditional dessert of the small, soft caramel type.
Lokum has a very long history dating back to around the 15th century.
Unlike today, the early rocum looked like it was fried with honey.
Later, around 1777, Ali Muhiddin Haci Bekir who opened a candy store in Istanbul, became the modern-day Lokum.
In addition to Lokum, he improved and made known to the world many Turkish dessert,
and later became a royal candy cook in recognition of his achievements.
Today Haci bekir is currently Turkey's most prestigious brand and the first Haci bekir store still operates today.
Opened in 1807, it is one of the few old, high quality bakeries in Istanbul.
