Seoraksan Mountain was designated as the fifth national park in Korea in 1970, and as a natural monument in 1965. It is an area that has been designated and managed by UNESCO as a conservation area in 1982 as its conservation value was recognized internationally.
Seoraksan Mountain has about 30 high mountain peaks, including Daecheongbong Peak, the main peak, Socheongbong Peak, Jungcheongbong Peak, and Hwachaebong Peak.
