Jangneung Royal Tomb is a historic royal burial site located in Yeongwol. It is the tomb of King Danjong, the sixth king of the Joseon Dynasty. King Danjong of Joseon ascended to the throne at a young age but was later dethroned by his uncle, King Sejo of Joseon. After being exiled to Yeongwol, Danjong tragically died there. Jangneung was later established as his royal tomb, honoring his legacy.
The tomb is set in a serene natural landscape surrounded by mountains and forests, reflecting traditional Korean royal tomb architecture, which harmonizes with nature based on Confucian principles.
