Jangneung Royal Tomb is a historic royal burial site located in Yeongwol. It is the tomb of King Danjong, the sixth king of the Joseon Dynasty. King Danjong of Joseon ascended to the throne at a young age but was later dethroned by his uncle, King Sejo of Joseon. After being exiled to Yeongwol, Danjong tragically died there. Jangneung was later established as his royal tomb, honoring his legacy.
The tomb is set in a serene natural landscape surrounded by mountains and forests, reflecting traditional Korean royal tomb architecture, which harmonizes with nature based on Confucian principles. Visitors can explore the burial mound, stone statues, and ceremonial pathways that represent the dignity of a king.

This is the place where Danjong was demoted to Nosangun and exiled. It is separated from Yeongwol-eup to the west, and the West River flows through it, forming a peninsula-shaped terrain. Dong · North · The west side is blocked by deep water, and the south side that connects to the land is blocked by the layered rock cliffs of Yukulbong Peak. Danjong described this place as a land island. Danjong was exiled here in 1457 (Sejo 3). When the West River flooded that summer and flooded the Cheongnyeongpo area, he stayed at Guanpungheon, a guesthouse, and closed his eyes after a few months. There is a stele that tells that Danjong lived there and a monument to the forbidden monument of Cheongnyeongpo.
