If you are spending any time in Antalya make sure to check out Old Town Antalya and Mermerli Beach. Old Town Antalya is also known by its Turkish name Kaleiçi which means “within the castle”. The narrow cobbled streets, boutique shops, cafes and restaurants, sea views and old town charm is the main reason why most people visit old town Antalya. However, don’t forget to spend time on Mermerli beach during your time in Kaleici Antalya. Prepare to be amazed by the clear blue sea, castle walls background and mountain views.

Yivli Minare Mosque is an Islamic place of worship in the center of the old city of Antalya.
The mosque’s fluted minaret named “the Yivli Minaret”, which is decorated with dark blue tiles, is a landmark and symbol of the city. Although the inscription at the entrance indicates that Yivli Minaret Mosque was built in 1373 by Mehmet Bey, grandson of Yunus Bey from the Hamitoglu clan. The original mosque was built in 1230 by using the walls of a ruined old church which was exist formerly at the same place.
The original mosque destroyed in the 14th century and the prayer hall was rebuilt with its six domes. Domes attract attention with their exterior tiles. This building is one of the oldest examples of multi-domed mosques in Anatolia. The mosque’s plan scheme is rectangular and the building has plain decoration style. The roof is carried by 12 columns which have ancient column heads. The exterior walls of the mosque are constructed by hewn stone.
The mosque is famous for its minaret which was constructed on the orders of Alaaddin Keykubad I, the Seljuks Sultan who ruled between 1220 and 1237. The 38-metre high fluted minaret is a unique example of Anatolian Turkish Architecture. It stands on a huge square stone base measuring 6.5 metres tall and 5.5 metres wide. The Minaret’s eight semi-circular grooved red brick shaft was originally decorated with dark blue and turquoise-colored tiles.
Yivli Minaret Mosque represents unique architectural design with its fluted minaret. It is possible to compare with other similar minarets in Anatolia such as the minaret of the Afyon Gedik Ahmet Paşa Mosque, Amasya Burmalı Minaret Mosque, Tire Karahasan Mosque and one of the minarets of Edirne Üç Şerefeli Mosque. But Yivli Minaret Mosque distinguishes from them with its minaret’s unprecedented form and design.
The minaret was restored in 1953 and 1961 by General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums. Its spire was renewed in 1973 by Directorate General of Foundations.

Antalya Marina (Kaleiçi Yat Limanı) is the heart of the city. It stretches along the waterfront beneath the steep cobbled streets of Antalya’s Old Town, known as Kaleiçi. With cruise ships, ferries, yachts, and fishing boats constantly arriving and departing, this historic harbor is buzzing with activity at all hours and is a popular hub for both locals and visitors.
Boat cruises—ranging from luxury charter yachts to pirate ship party cruises—set sail from Antalya Marina and ply the Mediterranean coast. A popular cruise destination is nearby Duden Waterfalls, but there are also plenty of options for swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving. Many sightseeing tours of Antalya also include a stroll around the marina or explore on your own.

After the First World War, in 1919, Suleyman Fikri ERTEN took action on attempts to move antiquities that the Italians had seen exposed during the occupation of Antalya to the Italian Consulate. Süleyman Fikri Bey, who was a teacher at Antalya High School, started his attempts to establish a museum by applying to the Antalya Governorship and having him appointed as an honorary Asar-ı Atika officer on October 15, 1919. First of all, he collected the ancient artifacts in the abandoned Bayraktar Baba Tomb opposite the Tekeli Mehmet Pasha Mosque and created a warehouse museum. The first museum building was created after the artifacts were moved to the Panaya Church (Alâaddin Mosque), one of the five churches left by the Greeks after the population exchange in 1922. In 1937, the Museum was moved to the Yivli Minare Mosque and then to the building that is in use today in 1972. Antalya Museum serves an area of 30,000 square meters.
Apart from the indoor exhibition halls and open-air galleries in the museum; there is a children's section, a modern art exhibition hall, a conference hall, a cafeteria, and a video screening hall, and many works are exhibited in a wide range from the Lower Paleolithic Age to the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Period. Among them are; Natural History and Prehistory Collection, Regional and Museum Rescue Excavations Collection, ceramics and terracotta artifacts reflecting the Classical Age and Roman Period pottery tradition, the sculpture group containing mostly Perge origin friezes, mythological characters, God and Emperor statues, urns, and sarcophagi reflecting the burial traditions; In addition to these, jewelry, coins, mosaics, icons, metal and glass works come to the fore. In particular, the Antalya Museum can be considered one of the most important museums in the world with its Roman Decapitation works found in Perge and its interesting and unique finds unearthed from the museum’s rescue excavations. The museum was awarded the "Special Prize of the Museum of the Year of the Council of Europe" in 1988.
