The facade of the church of San Francesco di Paolo consists of 6 pillars with Ionic columns on both sides and was built between 1816 and 1846. The church has a 53 meter high dome. The dome is adorned with identical decorations leading to a window where light enters. The white marble interior of the church and the round roof with the light opening (oculus) was designed after the example of the Pantheon in Rome. During your visit to the church (it will only be a short visit), also take time to look at the altar with its gleaming lapis lazuli. Not the most impressive church in Naples, but well worth a short look inside.

Piazza del Plebiscito is the most striking square in the center of Napoli, including the Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace of Naples) and the Basilica Francesco da Paola.
Piazza del Plebiscito is the largest square in Naples. The construction of the square is in the name of Joachim Murat, the brother-in-law of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Murat was King of Naples from 1808 to 1815. The semicircular square has on one side the Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale) and on the other side the church San Francesco di Paolo, which was built after the example of the Pantheon in Rome.
This square contains not only the royal palace 'Palazzo Reale' and the church 'San Francesco di Paolo'. You will also see two statues in the square, namely Statua di Carlo III di Borbone and Statua di Fernando I di Borbone. In addition, there are two other buildings worth mentioning, namely two buildings that form a symmetry: the Prefecture Palace and Palazzo Salerno. The Palazzo Salerno nowadays serves as the headquarters for the army of southern Italy.

The Royal Palace of Naples is a historic building located in Piazza del Plebiscito , in the historic center of Naples , where the main entrance is located: the entire complex, including the gardens and the San Carlo theater , also overlooks Piazza Trieste and Trento , piazza del Municipio and via Acton.
The Royal Palace was built starting from 1600, to reach its definitive appearance in 1858: numerous architects took part in its construction and related restoration works, such as Domenico Fontana , Gaetano Genovese , Luigi Vanvitelli , Ferdinando Sanfelice and Francesco Antonio Picchiatti .
It was the residence of the Spanish and then Austrian viceroys from the mid-17th century to 1734, of the Bourbon dynasty from 1734 to 1860, with the interlude of the French Decade from 1806 to 1815, and finally, following the unification of Italy in 1861, of the Savoys [2] . Transferred in 1919 by Vittorio Emanuele III of Savoy to the state property, it is mainly used as a museum complex, in particular the Royal Apartments, and is the seat of the National Library .

The visit to the Prisons begins with a small downhill staircase that leads from the Sala del Magistrato alle Leggi into a narrow corridor that is nothing more than one of the two crossings of the famous Bridge of Sighs. "The Bridge of Sighs" was built in 1614 to join the Doge's Palace to the adjacent building for the New Prisons. Closed and covered, it consists of two corridors separated by a wall. One connects the Prisons to the Rooms of the Magistrate to the Laws and the Quarantia Criminal on the main floor of the Doge's Palace; the other connects the Prisons with the Avogaria Rooms and the Parlor. Both corridors are also connected to the service staircase that goes from the Wells up to the Piombi. The famous nickname of "bridge of sighs" dates back to the romantic era, and refers to the sigh of the prisoner who, leaving the court of the Palace, crosses the canal crossing the bridge to reach the cell in which he will serve his sentence and can barely glimpse, through the small windows, the lagoon, San Giorgio, freedom. From the bridge you can access the New Prisons.

A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the Doge’s Palace is an impressive structure composed of layers of building elements and ornamentation, from its 14th and 15th century original foundations to the significant Renaissance and opulent Mannerist adjunctions. The structure is made up of three large blocks, incorporating previous constructions. The wing towards the St. Mark’s Basin is the oldest, rebuilt from 1340 onwards. The wing towards St. Mark’s Square was built in its present form from 1424 onwards. The canal-side wing, housing the Doge’s apartments and many government offices, dates from the Renaissance and was built between 1483 and 1565.
he Doge’s Palace was the heart of the political life and public administration of the Venetian Republic. Therefore, when the Republic fell in 1797, its role inevitably changed. Venice was firstly subjected to French rule, then to Austrian, and ultimately, in 1866, it became part of a united Italy. Over this period, the Palazzo Ducale was occupied by various administrative offices and housed important cultural institutions such as the Biblioteca Marciana (from 1811 to 1904). By the end of the 19th century, the structure was showing signs of decay and the Italian government set aside significant funds for an extensive restoration. Many original 14th century capitals were removed and substituted and the originals now form the collection in the Museo dell’Opera. All public offices were moved elsewhere, with the exception of the State Office for the Protection of Historical Monuments, which is still housed in the building, but under the current name of Superintendence of the Environmental and Architectural Heritage of Venice and its Lagoon. In 1923, the Italian State, owner of the building, appointed the City Council to manage it as a public museum. In 1996, the Doge’s Palace became part of the Civic Museums of Venice network.
